Mahama Pay Cut Yields GH¢327,363

He said following the announcement by himself (Minister) in the 2014 budget statement in the House and the commitment shown by the President, an account was opened at the Bank of Ghana in January this year and the deductions, which started at the end of January, had so far yielded the amount stated above.

The Minister gave the information in an answer to a question filed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP Member of Parliament for Jaman South, Yaw Afful, who wanted to know how much had been realised from those deductions.

Mr. Terkper said that government’s intention to use the money to build Community-based Health Planning and Services   (CHPS) compounds across the country had not changed and that since those projects are capital intensive, the ministry wanted the money to accumulate significantly before being released to the Ministry of Health to undertake those projects.

Minority Members had wanted the Minister to furnish the House with the account statement and various contributions made by members of the executive, but the Speaker, Edward Doe Adjaho, over-ruled that. He believed the policy was introduced on voluntary basis and that it would not be right for Members to know all deductions in detail.

He however, said if the Minority wanted to know whether indeed all members of the executive were contributing as promised by the President, there is a way of verifying instead of asking for the whole accounts statement to be made available to them.
