Confirmed: Bimbila paramount chief killed in latest clash

Government has confirmed in a statement released Friday that one of the two persons shot and killed in renewed fighting in Bimbila in the Northern Region is paramount chief of the area, Naa Dasana Dawuni.

Five other people were severely injured in last Thursday night’s clash between two feuding chieftaincy factions.

The injured, including a four-month old baby, have been sent to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Joy News’ correspondent Hashmin Mohammed reports.

A news conference is scheduled Friday for details of the latest incident in the already volatile area.

The Northern Regional Police command imposed a curfew on the Bimbila township and its environs after fierce fighting ensued between two feuding factions on March 7, 2014.

The clash ensued after the death of Nakpaa-Naa Salifu Dawuni, one of two persons contesting for the Bimbila skin.

The two factions are in disagreement over the where to bury Nakpaa-Naa Dawuni. There have been many other disturbances in the township as a result of this disagreement.

District Chief Executive for the area, Alhaji Abass, told Joy News the victims of Thursday’s clash are yet to be identified.

‘After a meeting with my security chiefs, I will be able to tell you the persons involved’, he said.
