NPP Members Are Too Power Hungry…

A founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Kwame Amoako-Tuffour says there is a ‘palace coup’ to oust him as a member of the NPP’s National Council.

According to him, some members of the Ashanti regional branch of the NPP have petitioned the National leadership to ensure he is no longer a member of the Council.

“My only crime is saying the truth about who is best fit to lead the party in the 2016 general election” he bemoaned.

Dr. Amoako-Tuffour disclosed this while discussing the chances of the seven presidential hopefuls who have picked forms to contest the NPP’s upcoming flagbearership elections slated for December 6, 2014.

They include the 2008 and 2012 flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo, former MP for Offinso North, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, MP for Assuogyaman, Kofi Osei Ameyaw.

The others are, former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen, former Information Minister, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, MP for Essikado-Ketan, Joe Ghartey and MP for Mampong, Francis Addai Nimoh.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Wednesday, Amoako-Tuffour said though it is their democratic right to contest, Akufo-Addo is the obvious choice.

“Akufo-Addo is tried, tested and has sacrificed a lot for the NPP. None of those contesting comes close to him,” he added.

Dr. Amoako-Tuffuor indicated that “party members are too power hungry to be gambling with the future of NPP.

“The truth hurts but no one can stop me from saying it. I’m not perturbed by plans to oust me from the National Council; my support for Akufo-Addo is solid.
