The National Council of Muslim Chiefs has at a meeting in Kumasi decided to maintain their executive officers on an interim basis for the next two years.

By the arrangement, Alhaji Abdul Kadir Tahir, the Dagomba chief of Accra, maintains his position as Interim President of the Muslim Chiefs from the ten regions of the country.

The position of First Vice President is held by Sarkin Zongo Fanyarama, who is assisted by Sarki Alhaji Omar Farouk Saeed, among others.

The maintenance of the executive officers was prompted by a question about their status by the Sarkin Zangon Cape Coast. The overwhelming response was for them to hold office on interim basis until a permanent body was formed.

During the meeting the newly installed Sarkin Hausawa of Accra Central Zangolane was accepted as a member of the Accra executive officers of the Council who would be tasked to respond to unforeseen emergencies when these arise.

Although it was generally agreed among them that an election would be held in future to select executive officers, a date was not agreed upon during the Kumasi meeting.

The General Secretary is Naaba Sigirie Sarkin Mosawa of Accra, with the position of Second General Secretary going to Alhaji Yusif Dantakwa of Koforidua.

The National Treasurer is the Sarkin Zangon Cape Coast, Alhaji Mahamud Dande Mazawaje, with the Sarkin Zango of Obuasi, Alhaji Ibrahim Gibrin, as his deputy national secretary.

The PRO position is being held by Alhaji Umar Baba Issa as the Financial Secretary post goes to Alhaji Sulemana Tanko, the Sarkin Zango of Bolga.

The executive officers had earlier called on President John Mahama at the Flagstaff House to introduce themselves to him.
