A a 38-year-old man was detained by the police on suspicion of rape at Okposi in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
It was gathered that the suspect identified only as John is a resident of Ugboju in Oturkpo Local Government Area in Benue State attacked and sexually assaulted a 82-year-old woman, a native of Umunira Okposi community.
The malefactor was arrested on Sunday, June 8, and later paraded at the police headquarters in Abakiliki. According to the information provided by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the sate, Mr Chris Anyanwu, besides raping the victim the offender also robbed the woman of N8,500 cash.
The incident occurred when the aged woman had boarded a commuter bus from Enugu to Okposi and when it arrived to the final destination, the rapist waited till all the passengers leave the bus, dragged the old lady to the rear side of the vehicle and raped her. PPRO reports that after being detained the suspect confessed to the crime.
