Nwakpuke, miraculously escaped death after the alleged assassins that were hired by her husband set her ablaze.

The younger brother to the victim, Sunday Nwigbo, said the assassins trailed her to their father’s house where she was staying at the moment following repeated fight with her husband over the male child issue.

He said the assailants poured fuel on her and set her ablaze and left before she was taken to the hospital where she is battling for survival.

Nwigbo disclosed that Paul impregnated his sister when she was still in secondary school, before he married her, pointing out that there hasn’t been genuine love between Paul and Monica.  He said Paul became more angry with his wife because she only gave birth to female children without a male child.

Another family source also revealed that Paul had on several occasions sent Monica back to her parents before he allegedly hired the attackers to kill her.

“Three men laid ambush for Monica in the night waiting for her when she came out to use the toilet and when she eventually came out that night, the attackers rushed and grabbed her while one of them slapped her repeatedly on her face before forcing her onto a standby motorcycle and sped off,” the source said.

A witness who spoke on condition of anonymity said the victim’s assailants after bring her down from the motorcycle, stripped and blindfolded her before setting her on fire.

“When they discovered that she had been severely burnt to the extent that she may not survive it, they abandoned her and ran from the scene,” the witness said.

It was gathered that Monica has been admitted at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, where she is currently receiving treatment for first degree burnt.

When the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Chris Anyanwu, was contacted for confirmation, he said he has not gotten any report on the incident, and said: “I will get back to you when I confirm it.”
