The convict, who resides at Gwagwa village, Abuja, was docked on a three counts charge of criminal trespass, house breaking, and theft before Senior Magistrate Abdullahi Illelah.

Stephen was sentenced by magistrate Illelah after he (Stephen) pleaded guilty to the charges.

The magistrate, however,  gave the convict an option of N21,000 fine.

According to him, stealing was becoming too frequent in the metropolis, noting that the court needed to punish offenders in order to deter others from it.

Constable Odigiri Ona, the police prosecutor had earlier told the court that one Oche Mike of Angwan Rogo village, Abuja, reported the matter at Life Camp Police Station on June 7. He said the convict broke into the complainant’s house and stole some of his property on June 3.

The prosecutor said the convict broke into the house through the window and stole a Home threatre, pair of jeans, necklace earring, belt, and a phone charger all valued at N150,000.

Ona said that the convict was seen wearing the stolen clothes on June 3, revealing that during police investigation, some of the stolen items were recovered from him.

“We shall be applying for compensation for the two speakers but we do not know the value”  the prosecutor said. “In respect of compensation, the prosecution knows nothing about the value of the speakers, therefore the court cannot ascertain its value” the magistrate said.

The prosecutor informed the court that the offences were contrary to sections 346, 356 and 288 of the Penal Code.
