Mahama Must Sack Yamin Now – PPP

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has asked President John Mahama to sack Deputy Sports Minister, Joseph Yamin, for politicizing the selection of supporters to Brazil.

According to the party, it is dangerous for a government official to be making such comments especially when the country is trying to deal with the issue of political polarization.

Government solicited for funds to fly 500 Ghanaians to Brazil to support the Black Stars who are partaking in the 2014 World Cup tournament.

But the deputy sector Minister, Mr. Yamin, is reported to have said the majority of the supporters to be sent to Brazil will be selected from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He explained the reason behind his comments saying, “NDC supporters deserve to be appreciated for their immense support to help bring back the party into power in 2008.”

Speaking to Citi News, the Director of Operations of the PPP, Nana Ofori Owusu, said Mr. Yamin should not be allowed to serve at the Ministry but “he should be sent home.”

He described his comments as “total madness” because he is a public servant who is being paid with “public money and he comes to do selective implementation with public money. It is not done anywhere in the world.”

Mr. Owusu noted that such utterances breed political division and hinders national cohesion.

He challenged the President to show exemplary leadership by dismissing the Deputy Sports Minister.
