Wood Group officials in UK return to repair T2 plant after shoddy job

The UK firm accused of doing a shoddy job in their attempt to repair the Takoradi Two (T2) thermal plant has sent back another team of experts to evaluate the work and fix the problem.

The poor job undertaken by the firm forced a shutdown of the plant triggering a loss of 110 megawatts of power to the national grid.

Government flew-in the team of experts from the UK based Wood Group to undertake the repair works months ago but the manager of the plant, Nana Osafo Kantanka Agyei told Joy News they detected the repair works were poorly done and were forced to shut down the plant.

He said they sent a strong petition to the UK firm to inform them about the challenges.

In the latest development however, Mr. Agyei said the firm is taking steps to rectify the problem.

He disclosed that, “since we filed this report to Wood Group, they have had to fly in very senior experts from within their group and they are all on site and they are working 24 hours just to make sure that the unit is brought back to service”

Nana Osafo Kantanka Agyei said under the circumstances, the firm cannot expect government to take up the cost of the latest repairs.
