Lee Chong Wei wins Japan Open again

Lee, the world number one, secured a 21-14 21-12 victory against Hong Kong’s Hu to make it five titles in Tokyo.

The Malaysian won the title in 2007, 2010 and 2012-13, and he came through the decider against Hu without too many worries.

Lee led 13-5 in the opening game and never looked back, while Hu did hold a 10-8 advantage in the second.

But from 12-12 in the second game, Lee won nine straight points to secure the title in a 35-minute final.

Chinese world number one Li Xuerui cruised to the women’s singles title, thrashing Taipei’s Tai Tzu-ying 21-16 21-6 in just 34 minutes.

Li broke open the first game, which had been locked at 15-15, by winning four straight points and she eased through the second.

It meant Tai was unable to add to the title she won in Japan in 2012.
