Suweiba demands whereabouts of baby after investigative report

Suweiba Mumuni, 42 year old mother of one of 5 babies which went missing at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital is incensed about the failure of the investigative report sanctioned by the Health Ministry to mention the whereabouts of her baby.

The final report by the Nursing & Midwifery Council, Medical & Dental Council and the hospital said the babies were still born but gave no details of the corpses.

There was no mention of compensation either.
The report also exonerated the midwife on duty who attended to Madam Suweiba.

But two other midwives were found culpable of professional negligence and were suspended for 2 and 4 weeks without pay.

The orderly on duty is also to continue his leave until police investigations are over.

Acting head of the Nursing & Midwifery Council Felix Nyanteh told Joy News the sanction was in recourse to regulatory framework of the Council.

The report was mute on one matron of the hospital because the case is in court, he explained.

‘The negligence here is the handing over and taking over and that is what in the wisdom of the board they think that we should mete out these sanctions to them.’

Meanwhile, Felix Nyanteh said a forensic investigation needs to be conducted to get to the bottom of the case but the Council doesn’t have the capacity to do that. It has therefore recommended to the Health Ministry to do that, he said.

Public Relations Officer for the Health Ministry, Tony Goodman said the Council’s report was accepted because it did justice to the Act establishing it.

He however called for cool heads to prevail while the police complete investigations into the matter.

But the family of Suweiba is not happy with the Council’s findings especially its silence on the whereabouts of the babies, LUV FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor reports.

They have declined to make any public statement until the Member of Parliament for Asawase, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, whom the family has tasked to handle the case, states his position on it.
