Peace And Love Ladies Club Holds Free Medical Screening

Over 300 residents of Omenako, a suburb of Suhum Municipality, have benefited from a free medical screening exercise organized by Peace & Love Ladies Club.

The club comprising ladies from six communities within the area came together to help themselves.

The exercise, estimated at the cost of GHC 32,000, saw participants within the community including young ladies and old women, undergo general medical screening, eye screening, breast screening, and HIV testing.

The screening was undertaken by a team of medical doctors and nurses from the Suhum Government Hospital, with support of the Suhum Muslims Development Fund, as part of activities to officially launch the club.

Mrs. Georgina Storph, the Sectary of the Peace and Love Ladies Club, briefing this reporter, said the club has seen that most of the community women don’t know their health status, more importantly breast screening and HIV testing, and this motivated the club to champion that health agenda to screen the people for free.

”Our community old women and nursing mothers lack the education on importance of their health, that’s why we organized these exercises, for them to know their health conditions and how to take their balanced diets,” she stated.

Touching on the challenges of the area, she indicated that the community lacked refuse dump, water for domestic use, and toilet facilities, which she appealed to the Suhum Municipal Assembly and the government to help them with such social amenities.

The colourful ceremony was graced by the Assemblyman of the Area, Hon. John Cudjoe, the Community Chief Nana Baffour II, and his elders together with the Queen Mother of the area.
