No action on Obengfo Hospital doctor one year after Joy News investigations

The fate of owner of Obengfo Hospital Dr. Dominic Obeng Andoh, is still undecided one year after Joy News investigations uncovered, the body sculptor is unlicensed.

“I would have wished that the case ends tomorrow…but it becomes now a legal issue… so I am not able to really indicate that within one year the case would have been completed,” Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council, Dr Eli Atikpui told Joy News.

The lack of results comes after investigations revealed that some people who visited the hospital at Weija in Accra, to remove excess fat in their bodies, developed life threatening complications.

Joy News’ Seth Kwame Boateng and Manasseh Azuri Awuni investigated the activities of Dr. Dominic Obeng Andoh following complaints from some patients.

A victim claimed she was deformed after paying GH¢12,000 to get the fat out of her belly at the Obengfo Hospital.

It was also revealed that Obeng Andoh who has been doing surgeries for over a decade, is not a specialist but a medical doctor.

Joy News investigations indicated that in November last year, the Medical and Dental Council suspended Dr. Obeng Andoh following a disciplinary enquiry held on 13th June 2012 against him on a charge of advertising his hospital and erecting billboards at various vantage points contrary to section 3 of the medical profession.

Following the investigations, the family of a man who died at the Obengfo Hospital petitioned the Medical and Dental Council to investigate the operations of the hospital.
