The deceased were; three children, the wife’s mother and nephew who was said to be writing the on-going National Examination Council (NECO) examination before his untimely death.

Meanwhile the 33-year-old father, Kehinde Ajayi of the deceased children and another of his child who were found unconscious were rushed to the hopsital by residents and are said to be in critical conditions at the State Specialist Hospital and the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo.

Although the cause of the death has not been ascertained as detectives from the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) of the Nigeria Police have commenced investigation to unravel the cause of the multiple deaths.

However, there’s been different suspicions from residents of the area on the cause of the death while some believed its as a result of food poison others attributed their death to being spiritual.

According to a neighbour, Muyideen Raheem, who said he and another neighbor had prayed for some of the children last week after the father had rushed to him for assistance, with the father saying it was not a hospital matter said: “On Sunday, my wife told me Kehinde came to the house to show his appreciation, but just on (Tuesday), we began to hear noises. When we got to the house, we discovered that the wife’s mother, three of the children and the wife’s nephew who had come to sit for the ongoing NECO exams were already dead, while Kehinde, his wife and Samuel, their son, were still alive but unconscious,” he said.

He gave the names of the deceased as Mary, Abigael, Dara, Michael and Samuel.

Meanwhile Chief Medical Director, Dr Ikuomola Ayodele at the Ondo State Specialist Hospital speaking on the incident said five members of the family were brought in dead while the rest were in critical condition. He said the husband and the son had been referred to FMC, Owo, while the wife, who has regained consciousness, “is receiving treatment at the emergency unit of the hospital.”

The CMD, however, noted the cause of their death has not been ascertained, adding that all the symptoms indicated that it could be food poisoning.
