“Ya Y3 Den Demo” Was Well Organised;Tamale to Orchestrate Similar – Minority Leader

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has demystified claims by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Nathaniel Kofi Boakye that the New Patriotic Party’s [NPP] demonstration in Kumasi was the most disorganised demonstration he had ever seen.

According to him, the police assertion was fictional since the mass parade was well coordinated. Adding that, the police was overwhelmed with the gargantuan crowd and couldn’t control them instead.

“The demonstration wasn’t disorganised…the police erred. The crowd was too big for them. People were just rushing to join because of the hardship they are going through. The police couldn’t stop them and couldn’t control them,” he said.

He noted that, “the people [demonstrators] comported themselves very well and there was no chaos. Over 400 thousand supporters, we did not even expect that”.

The sit-down was staged in the party’s stronghold and was organised by the Ashanti Regional branch of the NPP, in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Parliamentary Caucus.

The demonstration was to register the party’s displeasure at the perceived increasing hardships in the region such as the effects of a new capitation policy under the National Health Insurance Scheme and the excessive erratic power supply ‘Dum dor dum sor’.

But DCOP Nathaniel Kofi Boakye is reported to have said “In fact, in the history of my police life, I haven’t seen any disorganized demonstration like this…as to the conduct of the demonstration, they should regulate it.”

However speaking on Madina-based Oman FM, Hon. Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu hinted that, the Northern Region will soon organize a similar demonstration to express their miseries by the incumbent government [NDC].

“Tamale is preparing to organize such a demonstration, they have informed us [the NPP party leaders] and we will join them,” he disclosed.
