Accra, 10th June 2014 – Tigo announced today a multimillion dollar investment programme to improve its network and services for its growing number of customers. In the first year the company will be investing an average of over $100,000 a day in the upgrade.

During the first phase of investment, the company will commence a fibre infrastructure project to improve the redundancies of its transmission network between Takoradi and Kumasi. This will make Tigo’s service to its over 4-million customers even more reliable and less vulnerable to interruptions caused by accidental or illegal cuts to its underground fibre cables. The rollout will begin in Takoradi and will be completed by end of October 2014.

Future phases will include investment in additional coverage and capacity for Tigo’s voice and Internet services. This is in addition to the investment in an extensive programme of staff training and the modernization and opening of new stores across the country.

Roshi Motman, Tigo’s General Manager, commented ‘With this investment we are demonstrating Tigo’s commitment to keep improving the quality of its services to consumers. The company is going through a rapid transformation and these upgrades will enable us to become increasingly competitive and attractive to customers. Ghana is a country with a great economic outlook, and Tigo is a growing force which will help maintain its steady growth.’
