Give them a chance: Osam Dodou not fazed by the absence of experienced defenders in the Black Stars

Veteran coach Fred Osam Dodou says the absence of the entire back four of the Black Stars that played at  the 2010 world cup in South Africa, will not affect the team’s performance in Brazil.

Several concerns have been raised regarding the quality of the current defence of the Black Stars. Goalkeeper Richard Kingson, John Paintsil, Hans Adu Sarpei, John Mensah and Isaac Vorsah are all not in the current team that is set to represent Ghana in Brazil. Fred Osam Dodou says there is no cause for panic as the Black Stars prepare for the tournament

‘If it’s a club then you can say okay but this is a national team so those people who were very very good, it will happen that there is a professional player who is playing better than them.

‘Tactically, it will never be the same because it’s been four good years and the standards have changed

‘I brought in John Mensah and trained him as a defender. Kwesi went out there to see all these players and made the right decisions with the players he called.

‘The current crop of players have grown, gained experience and must take over from somebody’.

The Black Stars begin their campaign against the USA on Monday.
