Gunmen have reportedly attacked two communities in Plateu State Wednesday morning, killing at least 6 residents.
The affected communities Gako and Tanjol, located in Riyom LGA, were stormed around 1:00 a.m.
A resident said 5 more people in uniform, allegedly Special Task Force (STF) members, also died as a result of the attack.
Plateau Police Command spokesperson Dominic Esin confirmed death of only the civilians, adding that 5 uniformed members were injured and immediately rushed to the hospital.
According to him, the attackers also burnt 2 churches. Esin further claimed however that “normalcy has been restored in the attacked areas” urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious elements to security.
Premium Times correspondent tried to contact STF to clarify if the agency members were killed or injured, but this yielded no results as at the time of filing this report.
It would be recalled that a series of explosions, that rocked Plateau capital Jos in May claiming hundreds of lives, forced people stay alerted.
