25 year old student wins Sports Ministry’s ‘text and win’ promo

25 years old final year student of Kumasi Polytechnic, Frank Ofori has won one of the Fiat saloon cars in the first grand draw of the ‘text and win’ promotional campaign launched by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to raise funds to sponsor supporters to Brazil to cheer the Black Stars, at the World Cup.

Mr Kwesi Taylor, a member of the Committee, presented the keys to the car to an elated Mr Ofori.

The draw for the second Fiat car will be held on June 16 when Ghana plays its first World Cup match against the United States.

Dubbed the ‘Fanatic Promo’, the public were asked to text ‘Score’ to short code 1474 on all mobile networks in order to win weekly and monthly prizes.

At the cost of 70 pesewas per text message, the initiative would enable members of the public to win items, including fridges, TV sets, air-conditioners, phones and a Fiat saloon car.

Head of Marketing at the World Cup Secretariat, Dentaa Amoateng said the promotion launched some three months ago had so far raised about GH₵ 200,000.

She said the target of the committee is to raise about one million, but because of the many campaign initiatives towards the world cup, it was not possible to meet the target.

The winner revealed that he spent only GH₵ 32 in sending the text messages and was only hoping for a ticket to watch the World Cup in Brazil.

Meanwhile, 20 fans who won the draw would go to Brazil to watch the Ghana matches. Other winners over the period had been presented with phones and tablets, television sets, among others.
