Officers of the Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday arraigned a 25-year-old woman, Ranti Ramoni before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court for attempted kidnap of two children.
Ramoni, whose address was not provided, is standing trial for one count charge of attempted kidnap before Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.A Demi-Ajayi.
DSP Etim Nkankuk, the police prosecutor told the court that the accused attempted to kidnap the five and three year old children on May 30 at about 1:40p.m., on Ultimate Street, Bayekun, Ikorodu in Lagos State.
The prosecutor said the accused left her parent’s house in Ebute Meta, Lagos, and went to Ikorodu without their knowledge.
“The children were playing in their compound when the accused approached them and forcefully offered them oranges to lick” Nkankuk. “The children refused the oranges and screamed, and an eye witness who saw what happened raised an alarm. The accused was apprehended and tortured by a mob before some policemen rescued her”.
According to him, the offence was contrary to Section 21 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Demi-Ajayi, granted her bail in the sum of N100, 000 with a surety in like sum, and adjourned further hearing to July 16, 2015.
