According to the Okyenhene, the selfishness on the part of majority of Ghanaians is the cause of the current difficulties the country is facing, adding that leaders are no longer interested in serving the people with their whole hearts but rather think about what they would gain during their tenure of office.
Osagyefuo Amoatia made these remarks when addressing the durbar of chiefs and people of Akyem Takorase near Kade in the Eastern Region, during the occasion of the 11th anniversary celebration of the Okyeman Environment Foundation over the weekend, under the theme, ‘Let’s rise up and join the fight against degradation.’
As part of the activities, over 2,000 trees were planted at Takorase, Okumaning, Abompe, Ahwiam, Otumi, Suabe, Damaa and the surrounding areas, which coincided with this year’s World Environmental Day.
The occasion was also to sensitize the entire Akyem communities of the importance of preserving the recourses of the earth and also bring to the fore critical issues which had to be addressed to make the earth a better place to live.
Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin noted that in order to find solution to the negative attitudes towards the preservation of natural resources, there was the need to give maximum respect to traditional practices in the country.
