Sherry Ayittey and Akwasi Oppong -Fosu
President John Mahama yesterday announced further changes in his ministerial team, bringing back a former Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Kwaku Agyeman-Mensah, as Minister-designate for Health.
He replaces Madam Hanny-Sherry Ayittey who has been reassigned to the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
Akwasi Oppong-Fosu, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, who was earlier rumoured to have been dropped, stages a comeback as Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, replacing Dr. Joe Oteng-Adjei, who may be on his way out.
Also reassigned is the Minister of Roads and Highways, Alhaji Amin Amidu Sulemani. He is now the Minister of the Upper West Region, taking over from Bede Ziedeng, former General Secretary of the Obed Asamoah-led Democratic Freedom Party (DFP).
President Mahama, as part of the changes, has also nominated Nii Osah Mills, former President of the Ghana Bar Association, as Minister-designate of Lands and Natural Resources, where Inusah Fusseini had held sway and James Zuugah Tiigah, currently with Ghana’s Permanent Mission in the UN, as Minister-designate of the Upper East Region, replacing Dr. Avea Nsoh.
Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
Also reassigned is Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala, Deputy Minister of Information and Media Relations. He moves to the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations.
In accordance with Article 79(1) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, the President has also nominated Jonny Osei Kofi of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) as Deputy Minister-designate of Water Resources, Works and Housing.
It is not clear if the ministers who have been replaced may be reassigned.
