The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has warned political opponents and the general public to allow the President to steer the affairs of the nation the way he knows best.
His warning follows criticism of the President’s ongoing reshuffling exercise in his government.
In a matter of two weeks, the President has made significant changes in his government by reassigning some key Ministers and appointing some technocrats to join his government.
A political scientist, Professor, Astu Aryee in the wake of the reshuffles has cautioned that the frequency of the reshuffling exercise could stall development and the implementation of critical policies.
Some Ghanaians have also questioned some of the choices of the president asking why he has maintained Ministers perceived to have underperformed.
Others say the exercise will not yield any positive impact since if all the president has done is to move his ministers around.
However, Mr. Nketia says critics and pundits must accept the new Ministerial changes and allow President John Mahama to run the country.
He described the President as “the coach and he has been watching the match from the sidelines and he has made the changes. Let’s give him the benefit and see how the new changes will impact governance rather than prejudging as to whether they are good or not good.”
Meanwhile, the NDC executives are planning a low key celebration of their 22 years in existence as a political party in Ghana.
According to Mr. Asiedu Nketia, the NDC has been remarkable as a party and as a government.
He noted that the party is “relatively young” which has made immense contribution to the democracy and development if Ghana.
“We have been in government most of the time. We’ve won four out of six general elections and I think it’s a credible achievement for us and in government too, we haven’t done badly,” he added.
