Knee injury ends Stephen Moore’s season

Moore ruptured anterior cruciate and medial ligaments in his left knee in the Wallabies’ 50-23 victory over France in the first Test in Brisbane on Saturday.

In a disastrous start to his captaincy, 92-cap veteran Moore will be sidelined for the rest of the 2014 season in a blow for Ewen McKenzie’s men.

The setback has thrown McKenzie’s long-term plans into disarray.

“The whole year is gone…he’s obviously shattered,” McKenzie said on Sunday.

“It leaves a bit of a void because we had put a lot of things in the pipeline.”

McKenzie has further selection problems, after lock Sam Carter was ruled out of the remainder of the series with the French, after sustaining an ankle injury.

Carter played on despite incurring the strain in the seventh minute on Saturday, and McKenzie hailed the debutant’s toughness.

“That really gives you an idea how tough the bloke is,” McKenzie said.

“He showed great resilience and (the injury) didn’t show up at all (in how he played).”
