NPP to elect presidential candidate on Dec. 6


The New Patriotic Party has announced, election of the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2016 elections will take place on December 6, 2014.

The decision was taken after a crunch meeting by the National Council on Friday which also endorsed the steering committee’s proposals on the presidential primaries.

Twice defeated presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo; former Ministers of Trade, Alan Kyeremateng and Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku as well as Francis Adai Munukum are some individuals who have declared their bid to lead the opposition party to the 2016 general elections.

                
The aspirants have between now and July 07 to file their nominations while the date for the election of the Presidential Candidate of the Party has been set tentatively at December 6, 2014, according to a statement signed by General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong.

“Further to Article 17 of the Party’s Constitution, a set of Guidelines, Rules and Regulations for the presidential primaries 2014 was also approved. Potential Aspirants may pick Nomination Forms at the Party Headquarters, Asylum Down, Accra,” the statement said.

The National Council will reconvene on 19th June 2014 to deliberate on other matters relating to the presidential primaries.

Persons aspiring to contest the flagbearer race of the NPP would pay a total of Gh¢85,000 to process their documentation ahead of the December 6 primaries. Nomination forms will be sold at Gh¢10,000 while filing will attract a fee of Gh¢75,00.
