Kotoko play down expectations ahead of FA Cup final

The curse of the FA Cup final is not lost on Asante Kotoko after twice falling short of the title in the last three seasons.

Defeats to second-tier side Nania FC and Medeama seems to have sunk in well amongst the Porcupine Warriors as they prepare for another onslaught, this time against Inter Allies on Sunday in Accra.

Kotoko’s quest for a double after winning the Premier League is on the cards, having reached their third final in the last four seasons of the MTN FA Cup.

“Kotoko are not under pressure to win the double,” said former coach Karim Zito, who is now in charge of the Club’s U-20 side at Friday’s press conference.

“But we are here for the double and to make history for Kotoko. We promise our fans we are going to win the double for them.

“And a victory is assured for Kotoko.”
Losing back-to-back against the premiership debutants, who were relegation sure-bets before a major turnaround in the second round orchestrated by experienced head, Herbert Addo has given them cause to believe that another upset could be on the cards at the Accra Stadium.

Cautious optimism is the approach from the Kumasi-based side following recent failures in the finals.

“I believe that deep down in our hearts that we are going to win this trophy. Two times, we have been runners up and this time we are going to win,” Kotoko’s acting CEO, Opoku Nti added.
