The Krontihene of Dadieso, Nana Kofi Armah and his sub-chiefs in the Suaman District of the Western region have banned the Western regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) deputy chairman, Samuel Kofi Abiaw for allegedly insulting the chiefs.
The alleged insults were spewed after an award was conferred on the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP), Nick Ackah for lobbying for the newly created Suaman district.
The chief and sub-chiefs of Dadieso awarded the MP for the newly created district for his effort in the lobbying for the district status.
He said just after the MP was awarded, Tricky FM, a local radio station in Enchi called the Krontihene for an interview on their morning show.
On the show, Samuel Kofi Abiaw, the Western regional NPP deputy chairman was called for his view on the award given to the MP. He noted that the MP did not deserve the award and is aid to have badmouthed the chiefs for the gesture done the NDC MP.
Mr. Abiaw side during Nana Akufo-Addo’s campaign tour in 2008 in the area, the NPP flagbearer promised to make Suaman a district from the then Aowin Suaman district.
He said the current MP protested and told the people in the area that because of the sparsely populated nature of the area it cannot be autonomous.
When the paper contacted sources at the palace, they confirmed the issue and noted that the leaders of the palace saw it relevant to award the MP for lobbying for the district during his tenure of office and they did so for others to emulate.
“We have nothing against the NPP as a party, we only asked Samuel Abiaw that if he is not ready for any apologies he is free to go; but should NPP executives in the region or national tour the area can he bring them to the palace after showing this gross insubordination to the elders of the palace?
“Since he has insisted on countless occasions that he will never apologies, it is he, Abiaw who we are dealing with not the NPP as a whole,” he stated.
The chief said, as long as he has decided to retract his statement and apologize, “our decision not to welcome him to our palace will still remain resolute.”
Speaking to the Daily Heritage in an interview, Mr. Abiaw confirmed that he did not insult the chiefs and elders and therefore they required no apologies.
Chairman Abiaw said prior to the 2008 campaign, the NPP presidential candidate, Akufo-Addo assured the people of Dadieso of elevating them to a district status where the current NDC MP refuted the claim and therefore did not know why he should be rewarded for canvassing for a district.
Mr. Abiaw added that after the incident, the Kyeidomhene of Dadieso, Nana Yaw Ankora openly declared in the palace that because “I refused to apologized, nananom have banned NPP and its leaders from accessing the palace forever until I come to apologize.”
