Warm-up game: Kevin Prince Boateng impresses on Ghana debut

Kevin-Prince Boateng’s debut game for Ghana was described by Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac as impressive.

Kevin then 23-year old played in a holding midfield role alongside Anthony Annan during Ghana’s final warm-up game against Latvia in Milton Keynes before the World Cup.

Though he came close to scoring after his shot drifted narrowly off the post, Rajevac pated the player for playing in an unfamiliar role on his debut.

‘It was his first game and he played in an unfamiliar role, for him but he handled it quiet well. It is the role I want to give him but for a first game with Ghana he did well,’ the Black Stars coach said.

In the game itself Substitute Quincy Owusu-Abeyie scored a late minute goal as Ghana beat Latvia 1-0 in its final warm-up match before the World Cup in South Africa. Before Owusu-Abeyie’s late strike, Ghana had missed a succession of chances, including an Asamoah Gyan shot which cannoned off the underside of the crossbar.

During the 2010 World Cup in South Africa Ghana came second in group ‘D’ after beating Serbia, drawing against Australia and losing to Germany.

They then defeated USA in round 16 and almost achieved Africans best performance in the history of the mundial if not Suarez’s hand ball saga that denied them a place in the semi finals.

Kevin Prince Boateng scored his maiden goal for Ghana during the round of 16 victory over USA in the 2010 World.
