Supersport has confirmed that they will bring exclusive coverage of the five African teams at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Finals in Brazil to viewers across the globe. The big five namely; Algeria, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Ghana hope to make Africa proud in South America.
As one of the world’s leading sports broadcasters and following their world class coverage of the 2010 tournament on home soil, Supersport is confident of raising the bar once again for Brazil 2014.
Seasoned Ghanaian sports journalist Yaw Ampofo Ankrah would be the anchor-man for TEAM GHANA on Supersport during the tournament.
The former BBC presenter would follow the exploits of Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars, who would be in action in Natal, Fortaleza and Brasilia during the one-month soccer fiesta.
Just like the Black Stars, this would be Ampofo Ankrah’s third World Cup assignment after Germany 2006 and South Africa 2010.
The presenter said he is humbled by the opportunity to represent his country and Africa through the lenses of such a renowned sports brand.
SuperSport had also rolled out a galaxy of football idols who would be analysing matches. Bayern Munich legend and Ghanaian retired defender, Sammy Kuffour joins big-name football personalities; Manchester United superstar Ryan Giggs, former World Cup winner Marcel Desailly of France, English legend John Barnes and former Spanish star Gaizka Mendieta.
They would also be joined by Jay Jay Okocha and Sunday Oliseh (Nigeria) Shaun Bartlett, Andre Arendse, Andy Townsend, Neil Tovey, Ernst Middendorp, Ruud Krol, Stuart Baxter, Gavin Hunt and Doctor Khumalo (South Africa).
Reflecting its pan-African interests, SuperSport would have dedicated crews following African powerhouses Ghana and Nigeria, ensuring viewers get the very latest news from the playing camps.
As part of their coverage, Supersport would have a reporter and a cameraman embedded with the African teams.
At the launch of the their World Cup coverage at Alisa Hotel in Accra, Ghana, the General Manager of Multichoice, Mr Cecil Sunkwa Mills confirmed that Supersport had secured the rights to telecast all 64 matches for this year’s mundial.
Meanwhile, viewers in Ghana will also enjoy the World Cup Fans Diaries, produced by Ghana Sports International (GSI) in collaboration with One Ghana on TV3 and other partner stations.
