Soldiers Repel Boko Haram Ambush In Borno

Major-General Chris Olukolade, Director, Defence Information on Monday announced that the Nigerian Army successfully repelled an ambush in Buratai community in Biu, a town in Borno State.

According to him, the soldiers were on patrol when they entered an ambush laid by the dreaded Boko Haram sect members.

He said the soldiers engaged the terrorists in a gun fight and killed four while one was captured alive.

Olukolade further revealed that another patrol team of soldiers also killed five terrorists in a shootout at Kawuri, Borno State.  

The Major-General said the troops recovered two AK-47 rifles and two vehicles that were used by the sect members.  

Meanwhile, he also hinted that a key suspect in Sunday bomb attack at a viewing centre in Kabang community in Mubi, Adamawa State, has been arrested.   

Olukolade said the suspect was apprehended through the efforts of residents, who confirmed sighting the suspect when he alighted from the vehicle used in conveying the Improvised  Explosive Devices (IED).

Boko Haram sect members have launched several offensive attacks in recent times in the northeastern part of the country despite the fact that Borno and Adamawa states are current under state of emergency which was declared by the Federal Government to curb the menace of terrorists. On Friday the sect members also killed the Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Idrissa Timta, in Borno State.
