All Blacks lose Kieran Read to concussion

Crusaders number eight Read will not feature at Eden Park in the first of three clashes with the touring English, despite returning at club level from a five-week layoff after copping a knock on April 19.

Read played in the Crusaders’ 30-7 Super Rugby win over the Western Force on Friday, but All Blacks coach Steve Hansen revealed he was ‘not feeling well’ on Monday and was replaced in the squad by Steven Luatua.

Flanker Matt Todd also comes in for Sam Cane (fractured knee), while winger Julian Savea remains in doubt as he awaits scans on his injured knee on Tuesday.

New Zealand’s squad does not feature Dan Carter, who is having an extended break from rugby union.

Stuart Lancaster’s tourists are also missing representatives from Saracens and Northampton for the tour, given their involvement in the Aviva Premiership final.

England will play the All Blacks in the second Test at Forsyth Barr Stadium on June 14, followed by a visit to the Waikato Stadium on June 21.
