Helio Castroneves completes Team Penske’s Detroit clean sweep

The Brazilian won race two at The Raceway on Detroit’s Belle Isle, making it back-to-back triumphs for his team, after Will Power won Saturday’s IndyCar event.

The victory was Castroneves’ first this year and ended a winning drought of just under 12 months, as he last claimed the chequered flag at the Firestone 550 on June 8, 2013.

Castroneves and Power completed a one-two finish on Sunday with the former edging out his Australian team-mate by 1.6836 seconds, while Charlie Kimball claimed third.

Scott Dixon and James Hinchcliffe completed the top five in Michigan.

The win saw Castroneves move into second in the overall table, 19 points behind Power, while Ryan Hunter-Reay dropped to third having started the weekend in the lead.

Castroneves, who is in his 15th year racing for Team Penske, claimed his maiden win for the North Carolina-based outfit at The Raceway in 2000, when he triumphed in the now-defunct CART series.

Sunday’s win was the 39-year-old’s third triumph on Belle Isle.
