AFCON 2015: First round qualifiers conclude


Slightly over two weeks back, 28 teams entered the first round of qualifiers towards the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Morocco.

On Friday,  Kenya became the first Nation to confirm their place in the second round after going past Comoros 2-1 on aggregate . On the same day, Mozambique was  held 0-0 by South Sudan  to go through 5-0 on aggregate.

Last day
On Saturday,  Uganda ,  Rwanda ,  Guinea- Bissau, Sierra Leone  also confirmed their places in the next phase.  Malawi also joined in  – on the away goals rule after tying with Chad 3-3 on aggregate.

On the last day of the return games – on Sunday,  Lesotho went past Liberia , as Tanzania squeezed past Zimbabwe .

Botswana is also through  after seeing off Burundi 1-0 on aggregate and so is  Benin who dismissed Sao Tome and Principe  4-0 on aggregate.

Join respective groups
Congo’s  3-0 over Namibia  on Sunday set them through with a 3-1 aggregate win. And so is Equatorial Guinea who  beat Mauritania 3-0  to proceed 3-1 on aggregate.

The 14 qualified teams from the first round will now meet in the second round over two legs from where the aggregate winners will join respective groups for the final set of qualifiers.
