The former England fly-half, who scored the winning drop goal in extra-time in the 2003 World Cup final against Australia, kicked 15 points as Toulon lifted the Top 14 title in an 18-12 victory over Castres at the Stade de France.
Wilkinson had starred just seven days earlier as Toulon defended the Heineken Cup by beating Saracens.
It marks an incredible end to a fine career, and Wilkinson admits it is difficult to comprehend that his playing days are over.
Speaking to France 2, he said: “I’ve been here five years and it is impossible to put this feeling into words.
“All I can do is thank everyone in the group, the coaches, it’s incredible to explain, it’s just a pleasure. I’ll keep following the Top 14 because it has changed my life.
“I’ve spent half my life with a ball, it’s going to be a huge shock after rugby but I’ll have a lot of good memories with the whole of the team here.”
He added on BBC Sport: ” Part of me wants to jump up and down and run around because it is such a great day, but something is holding me back.
“It is wondering what the hell I am going to do now. It’s a scary time. It happens to everyone and you need to understand your time runs out and you don’t all get the chance to go out on a good moment.
“At the end of the game, when the referee blew the final whistle, I looked at the other players and it was a magical moment for me.
“Just seeing the other players, what they were doing. I was one of the players who started to celebrate later on because I was watching them, how they behaved together because it was the result of a huge and long effort.
“I was watching what my life was, the time I spent with the team, playing with these guys, spending time this way. It was my life.
“The only thing I wanted to see was the reaction of the players and the meaning for them of our achievement, and then I quickly realised that I was feeling exactly the same.
“That was the moment I joined them for the celebrations, which will continue through the week.”
