Simona Halep unsurprised by run to French Open

The Romanian is the highest-ranked player left in the women’s draw at Roland Garros, after a series of high-profile eliminations, including Serena Williams and Li Na.

Halep, seeded fourth, brushed aside Torro-Flor 6-3 6-0 on Saturday and now faces American Sloane Stephens for a spot in the quarter-finals.

And the 22-year-old is relishing her run at a tournament she holds in the highest regard.

“I feel really great now, because I won in two sets,” Halep said.

“It’s the third match in a row here where I played really good tennis.

“It’s not a surprise, because I’m more confident now in myself, and I feel the ball really well here.

“I love this tournament. I love to be here and I’m enjoying the moment now. It’s my best of my career, and I have to be happy on court and to fight for my chance.”
