Greek giants Olympiakos, Besiktas want to sign AC Milan ace Michael Essien

Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien is attracting interest from Greek champions Olympiacos and Turkish giants Besiktas, according to reports in Italy.

The midfielder failed to make an impact at the beginning of last season for Chelsea after returning from Real Madrid, and was subsequently allowed to join AC Milan on a free transfer January.

The 31-year-old has managed just a handful of Serie A appearances since joining the Clarence Seedorf’s side and could be off to Greece in the summer.

Essien is said to have a big fan in Olympiacos’ Greek coach Michel, and feels the Ghanaian would make a great addition to the squad, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

After signing for Chelsea in 2005 for £33million, Essien became one of the world’s most highly-rated midfield men, becoming an integral part of the club’s success.

However, in recent years, injury problems have hampered his ability and has failed to have a full season as a result.

The lure of Champions League football would tempt Essien but his high wages could be problem for the Greek club.
