120 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives who served from May 2009 to July 2013 under late President Evans Atta Mills are pleading with government to pay their End of Service Benefits (ESBs).

They said government’s failure to pay their ESBs has put them in financial difficulties.

Document available to Joynews, indicates 13.4 million Ghana cedis is required by the government to pay the End of Service Benefits of 120 Metropolitan, Municipal And District Chief Executives.

A letter signed by the Chief of Staff Prosper Bani dated march 24th 2014, directed the Finance Minister Seth Terpker to pay off ESBs for 15 former DCEs who are currently serving as Members of Parliament.

However the Finance minister has failed to act on the directive. One of the affected former DCEs revealed, some of his colleagues are on the verge of losing their property if the situation persists.

Speaking on anonymity to Joy News’ Elton John Brobbey, a DCE bemoaned “there is the need to expedite actions. These monies don’t come with interest. Even though we won elections, we went in for loans and our creditors are always on us. ..being an MP, there are also numerous challenges on us. We are unable to save enough to pay off these loans”.
