Wenger warns Germany and Portugal: “Be careful of Ghana”

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has warned Germany and Portugal to ‘be careful’ of Ghana in the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The 64-year-old Frenchman wrote in his Eurosport World Cup preview that though Germany and Portugal are favourites to qualify from Group G, coach Kwesi Appiah has ‘a good team’ to cause havoc  to the huge egos of the Group G favorites when the global football showpiece begins on June 12.

“Germany and Portugal might be the favourites, but be careful of Ghana!,” Wenger wrote.

“They almost reached the semi-finals in South Africa. They have a good team. Germany are the favourites, but Portugal are always a tough team to beat, as they showed during the Poland/Ukraine European Championships.”

He added: “It will be extremely difficult. I’d say Germany first, then Portugal. Should we expect a surprise in the first game between Germany and Portugal? You never know, but I still think Germany are the favourites.”

Ghana begin their World Cup campaign against the US in Natal on June 16 before playing Germany (June 21) and Portugal (June 26).
