A five-member committee has been set up by the Sports Ministry to oversee the disbursement of the GHS 1.7m (about $571, 910) to ex Ghana players who won the Africa Cup of Nations.
Members of the victorious Black Stars squads of 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982 will be benefiting from this pledge made by Ghana President John Mahama at the inaugural Presidential Ball to bid the Black Stars well ahead of their third successive World Cup campaign this June in Brazil.
A five-member committee drawn from the stables of the Sports Ministry and the Retired Footballers Association of Ghana have been commissioned to look into modalities for the disbursement.
‘After a meeting with the minister, we’ve been informed that a five-member committee is being formed to look into the modalities of the disbursement,’ ex Ghana star Osei Kofi revealed to Metro FM.
‘Some of the beneficiaries are dead and therefore the benefits will fall on their immediate relatives like their wives and children.
‘We have been assured that this committee will do a thorough work to ensure no issues crop up with this disbursement.’
