Fired up: Dede Ayew wary of USA threat

By Prince Dornu-Leiku
Andre Ayew is desperate for Ghana to succeed at the World Cup and is cautioning his international teammates not to take any opponents lightly especially Group G match day one opponents, the USA.

Twice in 2006 and 2010, Ghana overcame the challenge of the Black and Stripes 2-1 and the two countries are billed to make it 3 consecutive clashes on June 16 in Natal.

Despite Ghana’s triumphs in the two previous occasions, the 24 year old Ayew is adamant it will be far from easy for the Black Stars in Brazil. Dede believes the two previous losses are the very inspiration Jurgen Klinsmann’s side need to halt Ghana this time.

‘We have to be very careful of the US because when you lose to someone twice, you are very careful and alert to ensure that you are not a victim for the third time so I have no doubt that it will be very difficult against the USA,’ Dede has said from the Black Stars pre-World Cup camp in Holland.

The son of Abedi Pele also reiterated his insistence that the Black Stars are under no pressure whatsoever in the next two games against favourites Germany and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in Group G.

‘We all know we are in a very difficult group, we are not favourites, Germany and Portugal are favourites, everybody expects them to qualify. It’s good for us because it doesn’t put us under pressure,’ Dede re-affirmed.

‘How can we be under pressure when we are not favourites? If we qualify, it will be big news that Ghana qualified but when Germany and Portugal qualify, it will be normal. So we will work hard and enjoy ourselves because we also want to do something good for our country,’ Ayew said.
