120 ‘fake’ teachers in Upper Manya Krobo sacked

One hundred and twenty pupil teachers in the Upper Manya Krobo District of the Eastern Region have been sacked for using fake documents to secure jobs at the Ghana Education Service.

This was detected after authorities realized schools in the district had been performing poorly  over a numbers of years  in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Some of the teachers are said to have had just a BECE certificate.

Joy FM’s Eastern Regional correspondent Kofi Siaw who has been touring the district observed that teaching is on-going, albeit, some classrooms were without teachers.

Teachers at post in schools without the full teacher complement have no clue as to whether their colleagues are involved.

The District Education Director in the Upper Manya Krobo area is on retirement as schools there are being supervised by a director from another district, Kofi Siaw learnt.

Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive, Joseph Tetteh Angmor concedes he had no knowledge about how the teachers were employed by the Ghana Education Service.

He told Joy News he is studying the report for the appropriate action to be taken.
