Tweaaa District Appeals For New DCE

Concerned group called Ashanti Watch in Kumasi, capital of the Ashanti Region has called on President John Dramani Mahama to appoint honest, God fearing and competent District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Ahafo Ano South district of the Ashanti Region.

For some time now the district has been without a DCE after Mr. Gabriel Barima was sacked by the President for making a childish statement.

Mr. Andrew Kwasi Adjapong chairman of the group who doubles as the NKOSUOHENE of the community said Ashanti Watch is a public spirited civil society group based in Kumasi its prime objective is to ensure the development of Asanteman by putting Ghana first.

He said the group seeks to ensure that public officials entrusted with public resources of not abuse same.

The main aim of the group is to enhance public accountability and to render the issue of abuse of office politically and administratively expensive for government officials.

According to the chairman of the group it was against that background that the group seeks to humbly appeal to the sitting NDC government to appoint a God fearing person as the district head in the Manakranso Township and it’s environs.

Speaking to PUNCH, he indicated that, it has always been the greatest aspiration of the people of the TWEAA district to get in touch with the president (J D M) to draw his attention to the various problems that have been the bane on the entire district.

He related that, the members of ASHANTI WATCH have taken this initiative to bring these problems to the notice of the president on behalf of the district.

Mr. Andrew Adjapong, said, Ahafo Ano-South district is one of the districts in the region with majority of it’s inhabitants being peasant and cocoa farmers.

It has been an area noted for the production and provision of greater amount of basic food stuffs and timber for the entire nation.
No one can dispute the economic contribution on this district to the nation, he admonished.

He noted that, in spite of the district’s numerous contributions to the economic and social growth and development of the nation, the district of theirs have been among the most neglected and highly deprived district in the country. The people of Ahafo Ano-south district are now suffering from the activities of illegal chainsaw operators and illegal mining which is destroying our forest, lands and rivers, he stated.

He said the president should not make a mistake to appoint Mr. Alhaji Alhassan Nuhu Dicko to replace Mr. Gabriel Barima, the former DCE of the area. He said the proposed person to replace Mr. Gabriel Barima is never known in the district. The said Mr. Alhassan Dicko according to the group does not have his name in the voting register of the said district.
