Los Angeles Kings edge Chicago Blackhawks, lead series

The Kings took a 2-1 series lead in the Western Conference finals as Carter scored once and set up two at the Staples Center.

Having taken home-ice advantage off the reigning Stanley Cup champions with their game two win, the Kings maintained it.

But not before the Blackhawks had threatened to regain the advantage thanks to a two-goal first period from captain Jonathan Toews.

Toews struck either side of Slava Voynov’s equaliser ” set up by Carter ” in the first period to have the visitors ahead.

Carter’s wrist shot in the ninth minute of the second period saw the Kings level once more before Tyler Toffoli put them ahead for the first time.

Drew Doughty’s slap shot had the 2012 champions 4-2 up and they were untroubled despite Patrick Sharp’s goal with five seconds remaining.

The Kings host the Blackhawks in game four at the Staples Center on Monday.
