Committed relationship: Mercedes have long term commitment with driver Nico Rosberg

Rosberg’s contract had been due to expire at the end of the 2014 Formula One season, but reports have suggested that the 28-year-old has signed a new two-year deal with the team.

Terms of Rosberg’s agreement have not been disclosed, but Mercedes have asserted that both he and team-mate Lewis Hamilton will be with the team for the foreseeable future.

“We have long-term relationships with both our drivers,” confirmed a spokesperson for the UK-based team.

Mercedes have made a flying start to the 2014 campaign, winning every race on the calendar so far and lead the constructors’ championship by 113 points from defending champions Red Bull.

Rosberg topped the podium at the opening grand prix in Australia, but Hamilton has been victorious in the last four races.

As a result, Rosberg trails Hamilton by three points in the drivers’ standings, but can overturn that deficit at this weekend’s Monaco GP in Monte Carlo.
