Floating Voters Want Nana Addo As Leader…So What Is Alan Kyeremanten’s “Beef”?

A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Amoako-Tuffour has questioned the basis of the assertion by a former flagbearer aspirant of the NPP, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, that the party risks losing another general elections in 2016 if Nana Akufo-Addo is elected flagbearer.

Speaking to NPP stalwarts and potential delegates in New York last week, Mr. Kyeremanten said although Nana Addo had represented the party [NPP] well in the last two elections, he did not appeal to floating voters. He further stressed the need for the NPP to field a candidate who will, according to him [Alan Kyeremanten], appeal to the “300,000 and 500,000 people who always decide the final vote”.

But speaking on Asempa FM, Dr. Amoako-Tuffour insisted that, floating voters are already yearning for two-time presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to lead the party to victory in the 2016 polls.

“What he [Alan] is saying that Nana Addo has represented the party twice so shouldn’t attempt the third time is wrong. The masses with the majority votes say they want Nana Addo for the third time…why are they [those against Nana Addo] worried?” he questioned.

Dr. Kwame Amoako-Tuffour further opined that, the party is not ready to experiment with another candidate ahead of the 2016 general elections after describing Alan Kyeremanten’s assertion as “laughable”.

The NPP kingpin could not fathom why Alan would allow his presidential ambition to cloud his judgement on the reality on the ground.

“Those touting themselves as best candidates for NPP have already disqualified themselves because Akufo-Addo remains the man to beat. Everyone is saying no Nana no vote and that is the reality” he said.
