PV Obeng Mourned

The mourners included President John Dramani Mahama and his wife Lordina, senior government officials, a delegation from the Ghana Police Service and the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA).

Others who commiserated with the family were the former and the current Mayors of Tema, Robert Kempes Ofosuware and Isaac Ashai Odamtten respectively.

Also sighted were Robert Mosore, Member of Parliament for Talensi in the Upper East Region and Nii Larya Afotey Agbo, MP for Kpone-Katamanso who doubles as the Greater Accra Regional Minister. Books of condolence have been opened at the residence.

Tears
The atmosphere in the house of the late PV Obeng (as he was fondly called), who until his demise was the Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), was solemn. Some people tried to suppress their tears while others shed tears uncontrollably.

Family members who were present to receive visitors could not hide their tears as they hugged themselves to console one another.

Mourners who spoke to DAILY GUIDE said that they were actually shocked by the news of the death of a man who was healthy and full of life before leaving his house at about 1:30 pm that fateful day.

‘For me, it was like a dream and I am still asking myself why?’ a sympathizer told DAILY GUIDE.

Some of PV’s colleague politicians in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), were also in a state of shock and disbelief.

Some consoled his wife, Rebecca Obeng, with songs while others entreated her to be strong and courageous.

A delegation from the Catholic Church in Tema where Mr. Obeng worshipped, was in the house to pray for the wife and the rest of the family early Sunday morning.

The security situation was not taken for granted as police personnel from the Tema Region Command were detailed to ensure peace and security at the residence.

Traditionally, the house and its vicinity had been adorned with black and red materials.
