A member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government communication machinery, Alhaji Naziru Mohammed has posited that the absence of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the recently-held National Economic Forum is for the good of the country.
The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Paul Afoko issued a statement to explain their boycott of the Forum.
Aside the explanation given by the NPP for boycotting the forum, a leading member of the party, Dr. Kobina Arthur Kennedy described NEF as a wasteful venture after the Finance Minister revealed their concluded agreement with IMF over the just ended economic forum.
But addressing the stance of the NPP, the NDC communicator opined it is good the main opposition party did not turn up for the forum as every NPP boycott of national assignment has proven to be a blessing in disguise for the country.
“Ghanaians are better judges of the position of NPP at the just ended National Economic Forum…they don’t have the nation’s interest at heart except to gain power from the very people they turned their backs on when their ideas were needed most….To me, it is good the NPP did not attend the forum because it is a known fact that many of their boycotts have resulted in great fortunes for the country….NPP boycotted the Consultative Assembly drafting the 1992 Constitution but in the end they saw the need to use a portion of the Constitution to challenge NDC over the 2012 elections results…..they boycotted the passing of VAT in Parliament, the 1992 Parliamentary election and the Swearing-in of President Mahama and many others I can’t recall now but in the end the country is benefitting….I believe Ghanaians will see the benefit of the forum in their lives soon and in the future”, he averred on Okay Fm’s Ghana Decides program.
