An Indonesian footballer has died days after suffering a horror tackle during a match.

Akli Fairuz, a striker for Premier League side Persiraja, is believed to have suffered internal injuries as a result of the clash with an opposition goalkeeper Agus Rahman.

Footage of the incident shows Rahman, playing for PSAP Sigli, racing out to challenge Fairuz after spilling a shot on goal.

He jumps in and catches Fairuz with his boot around the abdomen area.

Fairuz was given treatment on the pitch and substitute but stayed on the sidelines to watch the rest of the game.

His condition deteriorated the next day and he was rushed to hospital where it was discovered he had suffered severe internal bleeding.

Despite surgery, doctors were unable to save Fairuz and he died.

His club has announced an investigation into what happened following the tragedy.
