How Kufuor Popped Champagne Over Victory Of Afoko, Kwabena Agyepong

The Informer cannot claim to be hundred percent perfect, but most of its stories are right on money.

The Informer can state on authority that in the after math of the victory of Mr. Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, in April Conference of the opposition New Patriotic party (NPP) in Tamale, former President John Agyekum Kofi Diawuo Kufuor, jubilated and clamped, when the results were announced.

According to this paper’s insider source, Paul Afoko and the team on their arrival in Accra, drove straight to ex-President John Kufuor’s airport residence, where champagne were popped to congratulate them for a good work done.

Apart from Afoko, the team which went to Mr. Kufuor’s house, included Alhaji Boniface Abubakar Sadique (Mr. Afoko’s campaign manager) and the polling agents who worked for Afoko during the election in Tamale, the source added.

At the brief reception, ex-President Kufuor was reported to have advised the team to work hard to ensure that the party elects a candidate who will appeal to floating voters and not only NPP supporters.

Readers of The Informer will recall that a leading member of the NPP, Brig-Gen. (retired) J. Odei, in an article was doubtful that Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong did not belong to any faction in the NPP.

A member of the Akufo-Addo faction in the NPP, the retired General, in exposing the sinister moves hatched by the Kufuor group to oust his man, Nana Addo, cautioned Mr. Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong not to mess up.

He warned “the two kingpins of the party – Chairman and the General Secretary, have stated they do not belong to any camp and therefore let’s give them the benefit of the doubt and wish them well in their efforts to build a united party; but they must be aware that every move of theirs will be watched, analyzed and bombarded as they did when they were not in office”.

Brig-Gen. (retired) J. Odei, has since 2004 served on the party’s intelligence, research and political committees.
