High expectations: Kwesi Appiah targets grand finale in Brazil

The head coach of the Black Stars, James Kwesi Appiah has revealed that his target for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil is Ghana reaching the grand finale.

He believes Ghana have got quality material to go all the way to the final and ultimately annex the trophy as the first African nation.

‘Black Stars have quality players, who can really take the team on their shoulders to make a final berth, so my target is Ghana reaching the final of the World Cup’.

‘Although I have respect for some of the big name coaches that will be present in the World Cup, I am not afraid of them,’ Kwesi Appiah told GTV.

Ghana reached the round of 16 in their maiden appearance in the World Cup and progressed to the quarter final in 2010, so should that sequence follow the Black Stars could reach the medal zone as the African nation to do so.

Kwesi Appiah was in the 2010 World Cup as an assistant coach, but he becomes the first indigenous coach to guide Ghana in the World Cup.

Ghana is in group ‘G’ dubbed by many as the group of death, comprising of Portugal, Germany and USA.
